The NSW Points of\nInterest (POI) web service allows users to search for and identify the location\nof features that people may want to see on a map, know about or visit. POI\nfeatures are derived from features maintained within\u00a0multiple\u00a0themes\nof the NSW Foundation Data Framework (FSDF). The features included in the NSW\nPOI web service are: community, education, medical, recreation, transportation,\nutility, hydrography, physiography and place.\u00a0

Community features\ninclude ambulance stations, art galleries, cemeteries, convents/monasteries,\nco-operatives, court houses, crematoriums, embassies, fire stations, gaols,\ngraves, homesteads, libraries, lighthouses, local government chambers, museums,\nobservatories, places of worship, police stations, post offices, nursing homes,\nretirement villages, rural fire stations, SES facilities, shopping centres, and\ntourist information centres.\u00a0

Education features\ninclude combined primary-high schools, high schools, preschools, primary\nschools, research stations, special schools, TAFE colleges, and\nuniversities.\u00a0

Medical features\ninclude general hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, children\u2019s hospitals,\nintegrated health services, multi purpose services and community medical\ncentres.\u00a0

Recreation features\ninclude athletics tracks, BMX tracks, camping grounds, caravan parks, clubs,\ncycling tracks, dog tracks, golf courses, historic sites, lookouts, monuments,\nmotor racing tracks, observation towers, outdoor theatres, parks, picnic areas,\nracecourses, ship wrecks, showgrounds, sports centres, sports courts, sports\nfields, swimming pools, target ranges, tourist attractions, training tracks,\ntrotting tracks and zoos .\u00a0

Transportation\nfeatures include airports, boat ramps, named cable cars, marinas, railway\nstations, slipways and transport interchanges.\u00a0

Utility features\ninclude filtration plants, fuel driven power stations, gas facilities,\ngeothermal power stations, hydro power stations, rubbish depots, sewage works,\nsolar power stations, transmission stations and wind power stations.\u00a0

Physiography and\nHydrography include physiography: caves, cliffs, gaps / passes / saddles,\nheadlands, mountains hills / peaks, peninsulas / spits, or plateaus /\ntablelands. Hydrography: named bays / inlets / basins, beaches, bores,\nbreakwaters, dam walls, islands, locks, manmade water bodies, natural water\nbodies, reaches / river bends, reefs, rock awash, sandbars / shoals, springs,\nswamps and waterfalls.

Place Features\ninclude cities, towns, suburbs, localities, regions and villages.

Accuracy

\n 		\n

The dataset maintains a positional\n relationship to, and alignment with, the state's topographic features\n including natural, physical and cultural. It is divided into the four themes:\n Cultural, Hydrography, Physiography and Transportation. Each of these themes\n is made up of various Feature Classes (or layers) that contain the relevant\n spatial data and their associated attributes and relationships. The data is\n captured at a variety of scales and accuracy, ranging from 1:500 to 1:250 000\n according to the National Mapping Council of Australia, Standards of Map\n Accuracy (1975). Therefore, the position of the feature instance will be\n within 0.5mm at map scale for 90% of the well-defined points. That is, 1:500\n = 0.25m, 1:2000 = 1m, 1:4000 = 2m, 1:25000 = 12.5m, 1:50000 = 25m and\n 1:100000 = 50m. A program of positional upgrade (accuracy improvement) is\n currently underway. Feature heights have been derived from LiDAR elevation\n sources including 1m and 2m DEMs. The data used to create the DEMs have an\n accuracy of 0.3m (95% Confidence Interval) vertical and 0.8m (95% Confidence\n Interval) horizontal. The features vertical accuracy is also function of its\n horizontal position.
