As part of the Geological Survey of NSW Seamless Geology Project, a Bedrock Exposure map of NSW UTM Zone 56 has been created through combining aspects of: (i) Office of Environmental Heritage soil data; (ii) CSIRO depth of regolith dataset and; (iii) the Geological Survey of NSW field observation and structural point dataset. The bedrock exposure map was created to provide a reliable, spatial approximation of exposed bedrock, so as to benefit field mapping. The current maps provided in the UTM Zone 56 Seamless Geodatabase overestimate the amount of exposed bedrock, and therefore, provide only an approximate indication to the location of outcropping basement rocks. The map was created by: (i) using the CSIRO National Soil and Landscape Grid as a base map, and; (ii) refining this by clipping out GSNSW Field Observations, which represent areas of known outcrop.
