NSW COVID-19 tests data

Update

From 11 June, the COVID-19 tests datasets were updated to align with the new reporting methodology used by NSW Health. The new datasets are based on the number of tests notified instead of the number of people tested.

The COVID-19 tests datasets that were published prior to 11 June existing COVID-19 tests datasets are no longer being updated. However, they remain available and can be found at the bottom of this page.

The two new datasets now align with the change in reporting methodology. These datasets are the  NSW COVID-19 tests by age range and NSW COVID-19 tests by location. The updated methodology is applied to all historical COVID-19 tests data. Refer to how NSW counts tests for more information.

The COVID-19 tests datasets do not include registered positive rapid antigen test (RAT) results.

About the data

The data is for COVID-19 tests and is based on the Local Health District (LHD) and Local Government Area (LGA) of residence provided by the individual at time of testing. A surge in total number of people tested on a particular day may occur as the test results are updated in batches and new laboratories gain testing capacity.

The Government has obligations under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 in relation to the collection, use and disclosure of the personal, including the health information, of individuals. Information about NSW Privacy laws is available here: https://data.nsw.gov.au/key-nsw-data-legislation-and-policies.

The information collected about people who were tested does not include any information to directly identify individuals, such as their name, date of birth or address. However, it does include information about their age and gender and the location they reported that they lived at the time of the test. Therefore, the underlying dataset was assessed to measure the risk of identifying an individual and the level of sensitivity of the information gained if it was known that an individual was in the dataset. The dataset was then treated to mitigate these risks, including suppressing and aggregating data.

Other governments and private sector bodies also have legal obligations in relation to the protection of personal, including health, information. The Government does not authorise any reproduction or visualisation of the data on this website which includes any representation or suggestion in relation to the personal or health information of any individual. The Government does not endorse or control any third party websites including products and services offered by, from or through those websites or their content.
