Data.NSW encourages data collaboration and innovation across the government, the NSW public and industry by providing a transparent, single search environment for NSW open data sets.

Data.NSW’s main objectives are to:

  • Enable the NSW community to search, access, use and re-use NSW government open data
  • Enable search, use and release of open data by NSW government agencies
  • Make NSW government data policy and initiative accessible to promote understanding and citizen engagement
  • Provide resources to learn data skills via blogs, case studies and data stories

Data.NSW Technology

DATA.NSW is built and powered using two main open-source data applications:

  •  Drupal content management system – hosts the public facing website and content
  • CKAN– catalogues and stores open datasets and metadata

What and Why of Open Data?

The New South Wales Government is the source of a wide array of data which is collected, stored, and utilised for daily operations. Making this data available to everyone, as open data,  fosters transparency and unlocks collaborative opportunities between the private and public sector as well as, the wider community. Sharing data across government and community has the potential to drive economic growth, social impact, and environmental sustainability and innovation.
