Barrenjoey Lighthouse stands on Barrenjoey Headland, at the most northerly edge of Sydney's northern beaches. It looks across the Pacific Ocean and the curling ridges of Broken Bay.A heritage landscape plan has been prepared for the lighthouse and its surrounding buildings by landscape architecture consultants Phillips Marler. It sets out a long-term plan for conserving the natural and cultural landscape of the headland around the light station, while catering to the needs of the headland's visitors.Among other things, the plan proposes:changes to the boundary between natural and cultural vegetation zones, to help the NPWS to explain the place better to visitors and to better protect it from bushfiresinstallation of a number of paths and viewing points, and repair or replacement of other existing pathsactive management of the gardens planted by lighthouse keepers' families, to help visitors get a better sense of the lives of people who lived in this remote spot. You can download the plan below, as part of a Review of Environmental Factors for the works proposed on Barrenjoey Headland.Comment on this planThis plan of management is on public exhibition from 30 January 2004 to 26 February 2004.
