Vegetation survey and mapping of Toorale National Park. VIS_ID 4027

Vegetation survey and mapping of Toorale National Park and State Conservation Area was commissioned by NPWS in 2010. Survey of 176 full floristic plots (20 x 20 m) was undertaken, stratified according to environmental variation with targeted sampling of rare or restricted vegetation types. Parts of the western floodplain were inaccessible due to flooding during the survey period so are floristically under-sampled. Twenty-seven vegetation types were identified, mapped and described. 25 of the vegetation units correspond to statewide Plant Community Types (PCTs), previously referred to as 'Benson' types or 'VCA types', as described in Benson et al. 2006; Benson 2008 and Benson et al. 2010). Two new PCTs were identified for the reserve. Polygon delineation and attribution to PCTs was through on-screen interpretation of 50 cm resolution ADS-40 aerial photography and ground truthing. Condition parameters were also measured for each site, and an score applied to each polygon. The final map is produced at 1:25,000 scale. VIS_ID 4027
