Ensuring appropriate capability to make effective use of data
TfNSW has several significant goals and outcomes that it is working to deliver for NSW. These goals and priorities are multifaceted and complex but are what is required for the state to overcome its challenges by providing safe, reliable and effective transport solutions.
To deliver these goals, TfNSW needs to effectively leverage the vast potential of its data and insights by ensuring its people have the appropriate capability to make effective use of data in their roles.
Transport has established a comprehensive Data Capability Framework to maximise the value of its information assets. The framework identifies 15 essential capabilities that enable effective use of data across the organisation. These capabilities focus on identifying what practical tools and methodologies are needed for data professionals to transform data into actionable insights, driving better business outcomes. The Framework also outlines what capabilities are needed for business and power users along with data consumers.
Achievements
Prior to the development of the Data Capability Framework, TfNSW had no definitive guide that outlined what skillsets are required for its data professionals, business and power users, and data consumers. The Data Capability Framework filled this gap by acting as a critical blueprint for how the agency’s workforce needs to be skilled with data to fulfil their roles and, in turn, deliver agency goals. Transport now has a comprehensive framework that identifies data professional skills to support the acquisition and development of data professionals and their career pathways.
