The Emergency Information Coordination Unit (EICU)
More information
Ensuring datasets are readily available to effectively prepare, response and manage an emergency event

In the event of an emergency, the ability to source, integrate and disseminate spatial information is crucial for the emergency management sector. Ensuring datasets are readily available to effectively prepare, response and manage an emergency event, directly supports lifesaving activities, assists impacted communities, and protect critical infrastructure. The duplication of effort to source data during emergency events has led to significant delays and extensive resource implications for emergency organisations.

Open Data
More information
Improving platforms and systems

An independent review in 2023 identified key issues with the existing Department of Education (DoE) open data processes and platform. The project aims to resolve asset governance, improve processes, open data quality, open data coverage and improve platforms and systems.

Foundation Spatial Data Framework
More information
The use of Foundation Spatial Data to support Government planning decisions in applications such as Land iQ

The Foundation Spatial Data Framework (FSDF) is a structured, standardised system for organising, managing and sharing spatial data. It ensures commonly used spatial information is captured, stored, and disseminated in a way that guarantees:

  • quality, through comprehensive quality assurance routines
  • consistency, through the adoption of common datums, projections and geodetic measurements
  • interoperability, by maintaining stable topology between delivered data themes
  • reuse, through the adoption of open data standards and access arrangements.

By using the FSDF, NSW Spatial data users need not worry about the underlying complexity of aligning multiple disparate datasets. The framework provides a range of common datasets which are freely available through a variety of automated delivery channels. These datasets can be used as a foundational base to build targeted spatial solutions.

NSW Digital Connectivity Index
More information
Providing reliable, consistent data on digital connectivity across NSW

Before the development of the Connectivity Index, government agencies and communities did not have reliable, consistent data on digital connectivity across NSW. This gap meant government was limited in making well-informed decisions on connectivity investment, prioritising critical needs, and shaping policies with efficiency and collaboration. Existing information only identified connectivity at broad, statewide or national levels. NSWTA’s Connectivity Index offers more granular data, enabling agencies to precisely target digital connectivity initiatives.

Spatial Digital Twin (SDT)
More information
Government data sharing and implementation of Spatial Digital Twin (SDT) technology

The NSW Spatial Digital Twin (SDT) is a program of work that is being led by DCS Spatial Services which will deliver a cross-sector, collaborative environment that will share and visualise three-dimensional location information. This real-world data supports improved decision making. The NSW SDT aims to share NSW Government data to create a single platform where anyone can find accurate and certified information.

Schools Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of a portfolio of over 2,200 schools around the state. SINSW developed over 80 business cases in 2020 alone. Compared with construction, the business case phase can take up to twice as long to complete.

Improving near-time planning
More information
Proposed cadastre data to improve near-time planning

Reliable spatial information about the location of future property development is required if NSW is to meet its ongoing housing supply targets. This data is critical for the coordination of future infrastructure, the rationalisation of development approval processes and the provision of essential services in the quickest possible time frame.

DCS Spatial Services has recently released updates to its Cadastre NSW cloud-based system which supports more efficient processes for land use and infrastructure planning activities for new developments in NSW. Currently the service captures information, including new property boundaries, as part of the pre-registered subdivision certificate process. When combined with planning data, this new source of information supports more efficient and comprehensive assessment of NSW planning applications, while further incentivising the transition to digital interactions with government derived from a single source of truth.

buy NSW
More information
Increasing transparency in government procurement

There is a lack of transparency in government procurement, making it difficult to align with, and support, existing supplier registration and disclosure mandates and government’s local content priorities. The buy NSW initiative delivers a centralised record and source of truth for opportunities, contract disclosures and supplier registration connecting procurement information across the procurement lifecycle and from source to contract. It will provide a 360-degree view of all buyers and suppliers to NSW Government across all portfolios.

This initiative increases probity of procurement processes and reduces the fragmentation of supply opportunities. It also connects existing buy NSW mandates and policies.

Edulake
More information
Better accessibility, governance, and scalability through a centralised and secure storage solution

The Department is facing growing data demands, so it’s important to invest in a solution that accommodates future needs. Driving innovation for start ups
More information
Using open data to drive innovation for start ups

Spatial data is widely used for property valuation, site selection, and urban planning purposes. By utilising this data, property developers can identify prime locations for investment and development. Everyday Australians also use this information to gain critical insights before entering the property market.

DCS Spatial Services provides authoritative spatial information for NSW as open data. This data is widely used by the private sector to develop online solutions targeted at real estate and property management applications. Freely available open data allows these businesses to cost effectively meet this market need. This ensures the residents of NSW have the most up to date authoritative information to make, what to many is, one of their most important life-time investments.
