Improving platforms and systems
An independent review in 2023 identified key issues with the existing Department of Education (DoE) open data processes and platform. The project aims to resolve asset governance, improve processes, open data quality, open data coverage and improve platforms and systems.
DoE retired its Center for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE) DataHub in favour of the existing Data.NSW repository, alongside a partnership with the Department of Customer Service (DCS), to invest in new features of the platform including a department-controlled landing page (‘the Education Insights Hub’) with analytical dashboards for users to navigate.
Achievements
In June 2024, DoE successfully launched its data on Data.NSW. The master data set asset has now become to one of the most accessed assets on Data.NSW. The improvement in functionality has also allowed CESE to work with more data owners to be comfortable about sharing an open data version of their data. Another key driver was freeing up the CESE team to provide a strategic and supporting role, instead of system maintenance on an aging platform. There is now an Open Data Standards document available to support this work internally. Further funding has been provided to DCS in FY24-25 to create more dashboards, develop additional features and support with reidentification risk. CESE continue to work with DCS and stakeholders across DoE to uplift existing data and identify new data assets for publication.
