Department of Planning, Industry and Environment

The composition and extent of the present vegetation within the Gerara addition to Ledknapper Nature Reserve is described and mapped. Thirty quadrat-based sites were sampled, with intensive field traverses and aerial photograph interpretation. Six vegetation communities are described and 181 taxa of vascular plants recorded, eight of which are considered to be rare and threatened or regionally significant (sixteen including previous survey records). Modifications to the vegetation within the study area have occurred with past clearing, grazing and the introduction of goats, however significant areas of Ledknapper Spinifex Complex, Gidgee and Brigalow Transitional Woodlands, Mulga Shrublands and open floodplain communities remain. The original Beulah portion of Ledknapper Nature Reserve was surveyed and mapped in 2002-2003 (Hunter and Fallavollita 2003). Detailed survey and mapping of the following Glenalbyn addition to the reserve was carried out in the early spring of 2006, with six vegetation communities described and 207 taxa of vascular plants recorded (Porteners 2006a).
