Infrastructure and Communications
Infrastructure provision includes the establishment and management of facilities which are essential for the support of a community, whether a small settlement or a major city. The function includes communications (historically postal or telegraph, more recently information technology and telecommunications), roads, ports and associated facilities, transport (including transport policy, the provision of public transport, and the regulation of private transport), energy (gas, oil and electricity), water supply and sewerage, and buildings (including public buildings and building regulations).
