Murrumbidgee Council

Murrumbidgee Council on the Murrumbidgee River in south west NSW is made up of several rural towns including Darlington Point, Coleambally and Jerilderie. Established in 2016, after a merger of Murrumbidgee Shire Council and Jerilderie Shire Council, Murrumbidgee Council covers an area of 6,680 square kilometres.

Council has over 100 kilometres of natural river frontage to the Murrumbidgee River. The longest creek in Australia, the Billabong Creek, also runs through the Council. Historically the most significant flood events occurred in 1891, 1956 and 1974 and more recently the major events in 2010, 2012 and 2016. Current project to renew the levee bank protecting the township of Darlington Point and a current Flood Study.
