Why refresh the NSW Data Strategy?

There are 3 main reasons why we are refreshing the NSW Data Strategy:

The recently launched NSW Digital Strategy commits the Government to release a new NSW Data Strategy that reflects current government priorities and changes in the data landscape since 2021
Robust data and evidence is essential for high quality and responsible decision-making on government priorities
A whole of Government data strategy is required to align cross-government and agency priorities, effort and investment.

Without a state-level data strategy for agencies and departments to align to, there is risk of divergent, uncoordinated and inefficient approaches to data transformation.

Informed by consultation and research, the Strategy will contain a set of missions, directions and commitments to align and direct capability uplift and investment across the sector. The Strategy’s deliverables will be defined to enable 1) informed, 2) capable and sustainable, 3) shared, and 4) efficient and responsible information systems.
